Greenbelt Alliance In the NewsOctober 27, 2006 Headline Yes on Measure K Letter to the EditorTHE COYOTE Hills Natural Area is a unique mix of habitats that provides a critical buffer for Coyote Hills Regional Park. These lands protect the park from nearby suburban sprawl and industrial development. That's why Greenbelt Alliance, the Sierra Club, the Audubon Society and others support Measure K. The Coyote Hills Natural Area is one of the last places in the Bay Area where we find year-round creeks, historic willow groves, seasonal wetlands and fertile farmlands. At least 173 species of birds have been observed in this area. If Cargill and the developers triumph, we could see up to 1,200 houses and 900,000 square feet of multi-story industrial buildings built on this valuable natural landscape. This development will cause 18,000 additional daily car trips on already congested roads, more air pollution and more development located far from transit and other city services. Vote yes on Measure K to send a clear message that the citizens of Fremont are too smart to pave over farmlands for more buildings. Vote yes to protecting the Coyote Hills Natural Area and yes to logical planning for the future. Vote yes on Measure K. Christina S. Wong East Bay Field Representative Greenbelt Alliance ### |
