Editor:

This November, voters in Pacifica will once again be faced with the possibility of allowing residential development at the Pacifica Quarry site. There are plenty of appropriate places for residential development. But the Pacific Quarry is not one of them.

What makes the quarry such a bad spot for development? First of all, it includes wetlands, home to a multitude of plants and animals, some of them endangered. According to the Department of Fish and Game, nearly 91% of California's wetlands have been lost, mostly to development. Why should Pacifica throw away this precious resource?

The quarry is also not served by transit, and an additional 355 housing units will create more traffic on Highway 1. That also means more water and air pollution for everyone.

Pacifica is a great place to live, and voters can make a choice this November to keep it that way. Prevent inappropriate development of the Pacifica Quarry: vote NO on Measure L.
